The Adult Education Committee invites you to hear ZAINAB AL-SUWAIJ Executive Director, American Islamic Congress Wednesday evening, October 24, at 8:00 PM Topic: Moslem - Jewish Relations Ms. Al-Suwaij is the co-founder and Executive Director of the American Islamic Congress, a non-profit organization established in the wake of the 9/11 attacks to mobilize a moderate voice in the American Muslim community and to promote civil rights in the Moslem world. Ms Al-Suwaij was born in Basra, Iraq, the granddaughter of Basra's leading cleric. She fled to America from Iraq after participating in a 1991 failed uprising against Saddam Hussein. Since the toppling of Saddam Hussein, she has been working in Iraq to strengthen women's rights and help reqbuild Iraq's educational system. All are invited to hear her personal story and the scope of her work. Admission is free.
Fall Semester - Tuesday evening classes Insights of Conservative Judaism Conservative
Judaism defies simple and popularly held definitions which derive basically from
the widely disparate forms of Synagogue worship in our movement. One
should rather seek definition in Conservative Judaism's understanding of
revelation, the nature and evolution of Jewish law, the way we read and
understand the Bible and the role of gender in Jewish life. It is the
openness with which we approach these and other subjects that best define our
movement. The course will use as text material the essays which appear in
our congregation's Humash, Etz Hayim. Tuesday evenings, March 11, 18, 25, April 1, 8, 15
Wednesday evenings at 8:00 PM An In-Depth Study of This book, also known as Ethics of the Fathers, is of enduring relevance. We will search for context as we explore the text and look for guidance from commentaries both medieval and modern. Are You a Learner? If so, plan to
participate in All will be invited to choose either a full Shabbat service or the Learner's service. We hope this will become a monthly happening. The Full Shabbat Service will start at 9:00 AM as usual. The Learner's Service will begin at 10:30 AM. Next session session Shabbat April 12.
The Adult Bat Mitzvah Class continues A two-year program which will culminate with a group Bat Mitzvah on Shabbat morning, June 14. This year's program of study will include a review of Judaism's life cycle events, the "how, what, and why" of Haftarah cantillation with individual and group preparation. Note the date: Tuesday evening, Feb 26 THE BEA & LARRY KAHN MEMORIAL LECTURE will be delivered by David Harris Topic to be announced David Harris is most knowledgeable about Jewish affairs both nationally and internationally. His commentary and editorials are widely read and heard. This annual lecture is sponsored by Bea & Larry Kahn's family as a continuing tribute to their parents. Their endowment of this lecture enable us to bring leading voices to our temple community.

The Dr. Saul Futterman Shabbat Torah Study Program LEARN & LUNCH Rather than deliver a formal D'var Torah, Rabbi Thaler will conduct an extended study session during Shabbat Services exploring topics in the weekly portion. Sessions are scheduled for Oct 20, Jan 5, Mar 29, and June 7.
Saturday evening discussions This program entails a few people opening their homes on a Saturday evening for a group to come together in a social and informal setting to discuss a magazine or newspaper article of Jewish interest.
